New Radnor
Kinnerton, Radnor Forest, Wimble
29/1/04

Starting in New Radnor, follow the road to Kinnerton. Once in Kinnerton, turn left (by the village hall thingy) and go up the tarmac road (it gets quite steep here), until you see a sign for a bridleway on yer left. Go up the bridleway and you'll find yourself entering the Radnor Forest.
Once in the forest, just follow the forestry track bearing left for roughly two miles until you see it fork off to the left through a gate onto the open hillside....
Follow the surfaced track along the jillside, taking time to soak up the amazing views....
Follow the track further until you see the metal barn after the next gate, shortly after which you'll see this descent on your left which takes you down into the woodland. This is a fast and technical descent. BEWARE WALKERS and HIDDEN ROCKS. This is my prefered route down as it can be particularly rapid (as long as you look out for walkers). However, if you follow the surfaced road you are on round to the right it's a smoother and less technical route.
(Above is the alternative route which will also bring you back to New Radnor).
The above shot is looking back towards the metal barn from the top of my favurite route down. Look at thos lovely icy bends!
If you chose my route, this is the next section.
Which brings you down through the pines (this shot is looking back up)...
And out into a clearing. At this point you really should slow as you bear round to the right. This is a popular spot for walkers and those seeking the serenity of the hills. It turns into very tight singletrack and there is a gate to negotiate further down. On the last section, it appears to be soft and muddy. Don't be deceived!! There are some serious lumps of rock lurking just below the surface! Be careful.
Keep going downwards and you will rapidly find yourself back in New Radnor, where there are two very good pubs!
This is a great ride and is mostly pretty easy. It can also be tackled in under two hours and is a great afternoon blast. As you can see from my other favourite rides and the OS map, if you want to ride all day you certainly won't have any problems finding legal bridleways here!
HAVE FUN!
